Some interesting news emerging out of Germany this afternoon as Bayern Munich player Renato Sanches asked to be left out of the squad for their game against Werder Bremen, a game they won 2-0.
The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Bayern all summer with both Chelsea and Liverpool thought to be keen on signing the Portuguese international as well as a host of other clubs.
It’s only been a year since Sanches made his £27.5m move from Benfica last summer after an impressive set of performances for the Portugal national team at Euro 2016. However, he has only managed six first team appearances during his time in Germany and is keen to make a move now to get more time on the pitch to continue his development.
Still only 20 the player has plenty of development to do but undoubtedly has the talent to play in Europe’s top leagues and there will likely be interest from many clubs ahead of the transfer window closing this week.
Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti is not planning to stand in the way of his departure and actually seems fairly happy to let the player move on this summer, he has been quoted as saying:
“If he stays, I’m satisfied. If he goes, it’s ok – no problem,”
The big question now is where will he end up.
Should Liverpool lose Coutinho to Barcelona ahead of the transfer window closing then Sanches would be an ideal replacement but it seems more likely the player will make a move to Stamford Bridge should he decide to give the Premier League a try as Conte has been attempting to sign him all summer.
However, his omission from the squad again today and his now public desire to leave the club will surely alert other clubs waiting in the wings and we could see a bidding war to sign the player over the next couple of days.
Where do you think Renato Sanches will be playing his football this season?
