Messi to Leave Barcelona – Man City Ready with £275m

A rumour that started to do the rounds this weekend is Lionel Messi being linked with a move away from Barcelona…

At first glance I think many were quick to write it off as nonsense, but the rumour appears to be far from evaporating and may actually have some grounds for consideration.

We all know about Neymar’s recent departure from the Camp Nou and it appears that all is not well behind the scenes at the club. Neymar spoke out yesterday about how he feels the board at the club need to leave.

Manchester City appear to be the club most closely linked with Messi which could see him team up with Pep Guardiola once again, a manager he rates very highly.

It also appears that City have met Messi’s representatives to discuss the possibility of bringing the Argentina star to the Premier League. The player has a £275m clause in his contract that if triggered would allow him to leave the club, much the same as Neymar had in his contract, just at a lower value.

It appears that Messi is currently not happy at Barcelona and is disappointed that he feels the squad is not improving enough around him and departures such as that of Neymar a few weeks ago will mean the team will struggle to compete for the highest honours in European football and may struggle to win back the title from rivals Real Madrid.

Adding further fuel to the flames is the fact that despite Messi agreeing new terms with the club earlier in the summer, he is still yet to put pen to paper to confirm the new deal, as he is possibly considering his options elsewhere.

Sources close to the club have also revealed this weekend the Messi “is seriously considering leaving”.

It remains to be seen if this is a transfer that will get across the line but it could yet become a deal that would trump Neymar’s PSG move in this transfer window and would cause even greater shockwaves through European football..

Do you think Messi will leave Barca in this transfer window? Would Man City be the best option for Messi?
